Childhood friends Ian Fraser and Luke Gruntz grew up together in Cobourg, Ontario, and their route into music began with a single listen to AC/DC around the age of eight. Their sound has been measured against Highly Suspect, Royal Blood, Arctic Monkeys and Catfish and the Bottlemen, and the band also cites fellow Canadians Zig Mentality and Ready the Prince as formative. What gives them an edge is their appetite for risk and their openness to modern hip hop, both in its stylings and its production.

Their first EP, titled 14, appeared on February 14, 2016, but the breakthrough came with the single Hometown, which reached No. 6 on the US Mainstream Rock Charts after its 2017 release. It was lifted from second EP The Boys, issued on June 29, 2018, and that year brought their first festival appearance at Lollapalooza in Chicago. Through 2019 they played many festivals, including 2000 Trees in England and Shaky Knees in Atlanta. Their debut album Bummer arrived on June 4, 2021, and the five-track EP Doom followed in October 2022. Their second album, Fake Moon, was released on March 14, 2025.
