About From the Jam
Before it was From the Jam, the act was the Gift, a 2006 project in which Rick Buckler, the former Jam drummer, teamed up with Russell Hastings and David Moore to play the songs of the band he had once been part of. The eventual name borrows from the Jam's sixth and final studio album, released in 1982, and it signals the group's repertoire. Hastings, a local musician for many years, brings guitar and lead vocals to a catalogue that rewards close attention.
Bruce Foxton's appearances with the Gift at Chichester, Brighton and Birmingham in 2006 led him to stay on as bassist, and the group took its present name in 2007. That year a UK tour sold out in ten days, closing with a show at Brighton Centre on 21 December to mark the 25th anniversary of the Jam's final gig. A February 2008 North American run sold out in six cities, including Los Angeles and New York. Back in the Room, Foxton's 2012 album, was recorded at Paul Weller's Black Barn studios, and the Foxton and Hastings partnership produced Smash the Clock in 2016 and The Butterfly Effect in October 2022.
