About Sabbat
Sabbat, a Japanese black/thrash metal band, grew out of high-school bands where Gezol, Elizaveat and Valvin learned their craft covering new wave of British heavy metal acts such as Iron Maiden and Demon. By 1983 they were writing original songs as Evil, and in 1984 they became Sabbat, playing around Kuwana with Venom covers in the set. Gezol, who took over vocals as well as bass, remains the constant, and some releases lean towards a traditional metal sound.
Their first single, two songs pressed in 300 copies on Gezol's own Evil Records, appeared in 1985. A televised slot at the Under The Castle festival in August 1986 came shortly before guitarist Ozny's departure left them a trio. The 7-inch run of Born by Evil Blood, Desecration and The Devil's Sperm Is Cold won them an audience beyond Japan, even though Gezol and Samm had stopped playing live after a 1987 farewell show in Nagoya. The debut album Envenom arrived in 1991, with Temis Osmond on guitar, followed by Evoke (1992), Disembody (1993) and Fetishism (1994). Entropy Records reissued Envenom in Europe in 1995. Ginoir joined in 2021 alongside Gezol and drummer Zorugelion.
