About Tash Sultana
Tash Sultana plays up to fifteen instruments, from trumpet and saxophone to pan flute, piano and guitar, which is why the Australian singer-songwriter is often called a one-person band. Born Taj Hendrix Sultana in 1995 and raised in Melbourne, with Maltese ancestry on the father's side, Sultana began playing guitar at three and found a living through busking on the city's streets. Multi-instrumentalist and producer, Sultana builds songs largely alone, and that self-sufficiency is what gives the work its character.
The breakthrough came in 2016 with "Jungle", shared online and viewed over a million times within five days. That year it placed third in Triple J's Hottest 100, and Sultana took the Unearthed Artist of the Year J Award. The EP Notion, released in September 2016, reached number 8 on the ARIA Album Chart, and the 2017 Hottest 100 added three more entries, including a cover of MGMT's "Electric Feel". Flow State, the debut album of 2018, peaked at number 2 on the ARIA chart. In 2019 came collaborations with Matt Corby on "Talk It Out" and Milky Chance on "Daydreaming", and in 2026 a global deal with BMG.
