About the venue

The Darwin Room sits within Shrewsbury Library, a Grade I listed building on Castle Gates, close to the castle. Shrewsbury School taught here from 1550 until 1882, after which the town took over the buildings and opened a free library and museum in 1885. Extensive restoration work followed in the 1970s, and Princess Margaret reopened the library in 1983.
