About the venue
The Steelyard takes its name from the Middle Low German Stâlhof, and its story is one of commerce rather than concerts. Between the 13th and 16th centuries it served as the Hanseatic League's London kontor and main trading base in England. Wool, and later woollen cloth, went out through it, beeswax came in, and traders from Cologne, the Rhineland and Westphalia held sway.
